What is L.E.C.S? L.E.C.Sとは?
It is a chat program developed for language education.
It differes from ordinaly chat sessions in several points:
1) Immediately after the session, each participant can learn:
a) how many turns he/she took;
b) the average length of each sentence;the word frequency;
c) whether the words used in the session are involved in the JACET 4000 BASIC WORDS;
d) the word collocation;
e) common mistakes among learners.
 		L.E.C.S.は語学教育のために開発されたチャットです。
一般的なチャットとはいくつか違う点があります。
1) チャットの参加者は、チャットの直後に以下のことがわかります。
a) チャットの発言回数
b) 発言のセンテンスの長さ
c) 使っていた単語がJACET 4000 BASIC WORDSに入っているかどうか
d) 連語
e) 学習者によく見られる間違い
2) Both teachers and students can:
a) take part in a session without any technical knowledge about computers;
b) talk in a session without being identified by others;

a)コンピュータの専門知識がなくてもチャットに参加できます。
b) チャット名を使うので、他の人に自分だと気がつかれずに話せます。
3) A teacher can:
a) provide students with as many sessions as he/she wants without any technical knowledge about computers
b) monitor the students' chat and give instructions, if necessary. 		3) 先生は
a) コンピュータの専門知識がなくても、学生にいくつでも好きなだけチャットを提供することができます。
b) 学生のチャットをモニターして、必要があれば指示を与えることができます。
4) A researcher can:
a) get access to authentic learner English;
b) obtain the contents of each chat session in text format on request by e-mail;
What is necessary to use L.E.C.S.? L.E.C.S.に必要なものは？
In order to make use of L.E.C.S.:
1) each participant should have a computer which is connected to the world wide web.
2) Internet Explorer 4.0 or later versions must be installed.
 L.E.C.S.を使うには、
1) 参加者一人に一台ずつインターネットに接続したコンピュータが必要です。
2) Internet Explorer 4.0 以上のブラウザをインストールして下さい。
How to use this chat program. チャットの使い方
1) First, you need to register for the program at the "Registration" link. You only need to register once.
2) Then go to the "Create a Chat Session" link to prepare a topic the participants will talk about in the session.
3) You can join a chat session from the "Chat List". In order to protect the participants' privacy, we strongly recommend each person to use a chat name instead of his/her real name.
4) A teacher can view the contents of each chat session and the frequency and collocation of words used by each participant at the "Chat Results (my classes)" link.
5) A researcher can view the contents of all the chat sessions teachers allow to be open and the frequency and collocation of words used by the participants at the "Chat Results (all group)" link.
 1) まずRegistrationで登録をして下さい。一度登録すれば、次回からは登録の必要はありません。
2) Create a New Chatで、チャットで話すトピックを入れてください。
3) Chat Listからチャットに入ることができます。参加者のプライバシーを守るために、チャットに参加するときは、本名ではなくチャットネームを使用することを強く勧めます。
4) Chat Results (my classes)で、先生はチャットの原文と参加者一人一人の使った単語の頻度と連語を見ることができます。
5) Chat Results (all group)で、研究者は先生が公開を許可したチャットの原文と単語の頻度と連語をみることができます。
Can I delete a chat log from the server? 作ったチャットをサーバーから消せますか？
No user can delete chat logs from the server. The program is designed not only for the classroom use but also for the language research. To keep their chat list neat and small, some teachers actually want to delete old logs that they will never use again, but their students' writings can offer researchers some important samples of learner English. That is the reason why there is no delete function in the program. Some users, however, have created trial rooms to see how the system works and we have removed them on their request. If you would like to remove a fake session, please let us know the date and the title along with your username and password. Our contact address is taoka@kanto-gakuin.ac.jp. It will be cut out of your list in a few days. 　ユーザがサーバーから自分でチャットを消すことはできません。このプログラムは教室で使うためだけでなく言語研究で用いることを想定して作られています。実際に、チャットのリストを整理して短くしたいので二度と使う予定のない古いチャットを消したいという先生がたがいますが、学生の書いた文章は研究者にとって重要な学習者英語の実例を提供する可能性があります。ですからこのプログラムでは消去の機能がありません。しかしプログラムがどのように機能するのかを確認するためにお試しでチャットを作る人もあり、そのような場合は要望に応じて、こちらでチャットを削除したこともあります。もしお試しのチャットを消したいときは、そのチャットの日付とタイトルにあなたのユーザ名とパスワードを添えて、taoka@kanto-gakuin.ac.jp までご連絡ください。数日以内にリストから削除いたします。
